Our Values

At Our Lady of the Assumption School, we have 4 key Values which guide your child(ren) throughout their school journey from Year 0 – Year 8. These Values are ….

Respect

Whakaute

Responsiblity

Haepapa

Life long learning

Akoranga

Faith

Whakapono

Our children work at different stages within these values… they start off with being a ‘Seed’, then progress on to the ‘Seedling’ stage, before moving on to being a ‘Sapling’ then ultimately becoming a ‘Tree’. In addition to these values underpinning everything we do, one value is specifically focussed on in each Value Assembly. These assemblies are run twice a term and are run by our Year 8 Leaders, in their Leadership groups.

Principal’s Welcome

It is a pleasure for me to extend a warm welcome to you and your family on behalf of the Our Lady of the Assumption School Community. We are a Year 1-8 co-educational school that endeavours to provide educational opportunities of the highest standard within a sound Catholic environment. Education in our school concentrates not only on academic progress for our pupils but also on their spiritual, physical, emotional and social development.

Conceptual Curriculum

Our Lady of the Assumption Conceptual Curriculum is structured around four overarching conceptual understandings across the school. There is one conceptual understanding per year over a 4-year rotation.

Teachers design learning opportunities around each year’s concept so that students strengthen and deepen their understanding of the concept by learning through at least three contexts. By learning through more than one context, students can transfer their ideas and understandings across contexts.  Programmes are designed with the learning areas being integrated where there are authentic connections.
